Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 04:40AM Well last weekend's overtainment specatcle Dance Party 4000 Fountain of Woot
was pretty awesome. 5 hours of non stop action. Totally exhausting but worth every
second. Check this highlight video for some of the night's best bits.
After a lengthy technical set up ( our check list included among other things 33 batteries, 29 tambourines, 2 live cameras, a laser, wireless headset mics, 50 metres of ribbon and a giant spandex human heart. ) we were totally exhausted. The thought of putting on 5 hours of overtainment with no breaks seemed like an impossible feat. But after a White Horse Burger, some cold chips and a few cans of Red Bull we soldiered through and the show began.
As usual we started off the show with Cardioke, our calorie burning karaoke challenge. People must sing karaoke whilst on a crosstrainer and the calories are counted. Whoever burns the most calories during their song takes home glory and a special prize. We have recently acquired a new crosstrainer from our friend Stuart that we kitted out with some flashing EL wire to make it look like something out of a Tron gym. Now usually I do the first Cardioke song because the rush of endorphins gives me the energy to carry on with the rest of the show but I have to say I struggled. I sang Pass Out by Tinie Tempah and although I did burn 50 calories I was pretty wrecked afterwards. My body was seizing up in all sorts of weird places. My hands were cramping, the arches of my feet were cramping, it was not a good start. There was some amazing turns but in the end Charlie Partridge took home the top score with an unbelievable 59 calories and won himself a triple chocolate indulgence cake with over 2000 calories!
First up was Duotard. We performed a routine not seen since 2009 which starts with us inside a giant beating spandex human heart and an eerie slowed down acapella of Celine Dion. This led into an interpretive dance complete with ribbons to an Easter European trance version of Bon Jovi's You Give Love A Bad Name. Doing super low squats inside a spandex heart for a minute and a half is a new dimension in hardcore. We're still feeling the effects a week later!
Les Doodis And The Divine Light Electro Gospel Revue were up next and they brought their hand clapping 21st century revival raving to a crowd who were more than ready to receive a little MEGATIVITY. There were free tambourines for everyone, a faith healing and believe it or not some crowd surfing. All the things you's expect from a gospel revue!!
Not more than 5 minutes after Les and his crew had left the stage, we towelled off, put on our Duotard suits and were back on stage to perform one of our famous follow along dance videos. Nothing quite beats the sight of 200 people following along to your movements, all smiling, laughing and sweating as much as we are. Dance Party 4000 is by far the most physically demanding show we do and it's amazing to see people getting involved every step of the way.
Straight after the follow along we gave the crowd their chance to show off with the LASER VIDEO SOUL TRAIN. This was a new concept we had developed for this show and were a little unsure if it was going to work or not but for a first time, I think it was pretty awesome. The video infinity tunnel looked soooo sweet as the dancers busted their moves on stage before heading down the soul train. The best dancers of the soul train were a couple of guys who did some on-the-spot synchronised breakdancing and won themselves a fantastic home gardening kit. Someone even asked us if we'd paid them to be there! Ha, too funny! We're hoping to feature again at the next Dance Party 4000 in April so we'll be able to get it looking even more insane.
Finally the night was handed over to the spinning genre wheel and we plowed through over a dozen styles of music including heavy metal, UK garage, rock-a-billy and our favourite, panpipes. If you truly love music and dancing, the genre wheel does not disappoint. Remember, there is no such things as a bad genre, only bad songs. Here's the holy grail of panpipes tracks.
In the end it was a fantastic night, and we can only hope that the +300 people who came out for it enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed putting it on.
