Foreign Tongues 2009 was our most technically
accomplished Eurovision to date!

The acts were as diverse as ever, ranging from Norwegian
metal to Georgian techno folk, how the audience ever
decided on one winner is beyond me! But decide they did
and 2009's winner was Ricky Raclette, the fondue loving mountaineer
from Switzerland!

Warren who runs the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club
declared after the show that it was the best night that
had ever been in his club. Now that's what I call a compliment!

It was such a great show we took 2010 off
because we didn't think we could top it!

Here's what we had!

Ricky Raclette, the 2009 Foreign Tongers winner!
Coming from the high in the Swiss Alps, this mountain man certainly charmed the crowds
(and especially the ladies) with his fondue inspired rock and roll. Since winning Foreign Tongues
he has gone on to open Europe's first combination fondue hot tub restaurant spa.

Hola! Next up we had Santos & Pepe from sunny Spain!
There was certainly no "bull" about this act who were our second place finalists.
You won't believe how much paperwork is involved in getting a performing bull into the UK.
Were you lucky enough to see them on your TV as well?

Remix!! It's the International Live MC's from the Czech Republic!
This duo from Prague managed to combine street cred, puppetry and a respectable
knowledge of farming techniques to deliver a rock solid performance at Foreign Tongues.
They have recenly signed to Czech hip hop supremo Dr. Angel's record label and are due to
release an album of Hannah Montana covers in Czech.

Then we were treated to Premier Cru from Monaco!
Made up of a former F1 driver and a rather shady looking casino owner, Premier Cru
paid us 5,000 Euros to be in the show and we accepted. That said, their performance
was truly unforgettable, and climaxed with a cloud of cocaine and smooth grooves engulfing
the audience.

Every year there is an act that defies description. This year it was Mogden.
We didn't have a Moldovan translator and the only thing we could figure out
was that "Mogden" is the Moldovan word for "joy".
Truly magically in every way.

Emotikon came next all the way from Georgia!
"Numbers turn to letters, make love in SMS" was the cry of these two star crossed lovers
who have capaltized on Georgia's recent mobile phone craze and delivered one of the most
original entries we've ever had! A soon to be released album of polyphonc ringtones
is in the pipeline I'm told.

And lastly we had some Scaninavian cry-metal courtesy of Tearhammer!
Mysterious and moody, these two live in a dark world of misery and depair
lightened only by the reflection of the moon in a puddle of tears. After finishing
last in Foreign Tongues 2009 they returned to Norway and diappeared into
the dark depths of their parents basement.
