2008 saw us return to the Working Men's
with an even bigger show!

2007 winners Colour 2 Hot opened the show, the audience
was treated to free glow sticks from Holland, ice cream from Italy
and a bodybuilder in a speedo from Belgium!

The show was one again hosted by Steffi and Anders from the
hit Swedish sit com "Skagmork" and after all the "wotes"
were counted, the glory went to lovable Italians, Neapolitan.

Here are all the acts that competed!!

2008 Foreign Tongues winner, Neapolitan from Italy!
The competition was fierce this year and it all came down to the final votes but Aldo and Luigi
and their summertime ode to ice cream ended up melting the hearts of the crowd and they
went home victorious. Appearently their ice cream van has be spotted around London Fields!!!

All the way from Germany came our next entry, Schlap und Tickl.
Hans Schlap and Jan Tickl are two of the funkiest men in all of Germany.
Their love for funk music is only matched by their love of efficiency.
They are currently working on a funk opera based on the life of Klaus Kinski.
Keyboards supplied by Yahama.

Next was Obelisk, hailing from the wilds of Belarus.
Very little was known about Obelisk but they definately thrilled the crowd, with their
heavy leather industrial sound and ended up a close second behind Italy. Adorned with
antlers, horns, and a suspicious looking black sausage Obelisk's were definately 2008's
wildcard entry. Tragically they no longer perform as they ended up killing each other in a
canibalistic suicide pact at a carp festival in Latvia.

We then jetted off to Greece, courtesy of Stefania Stephanopoulos!
Eurovision just isn't Eurovision without a massive power ballad and our Greek
goddess certainly didn't disappoint. She delivered a tear jerking performance
that resulted in a river of mascara, the remains of which can still be seen on
the stage at the Working Men's Club.

Over to Belgium and the one and only Shaun Braun!
We were first introduced to Shaun Braun and his durag at Hot Breath's Witness the Fitness night.
At Foreign Tongues he delivered an exceptional ode to himself complete with baffling facial expressions,
jumping j
acks and tearaway costume finale that truly caught everyone off guard.

Our Dutch entry came from DJ Parti featuring Xandra!
DJ Parti is the biggest trance producer in Holland and owner of Amsterdam's biggest
club, Lasergroot! Xandra is the Dutch equivalent of RuPaul and even has a brand of
cheese named after her! Set your synthesizer to fabulous!

And finally, France provided a little "je ne sais quoi" from Un Deux Quoi!
These Francophone garage rockers sang about the glories of all things French.
We can honestly say there are the only act we've ever heard to reference
Jean Genet AND Thierry Henry in the same song!! Vive La France!
